Game Overview
Hell Turn is a top down, simul-turn, stealth game. Set in Hell, you play as John AngelMan on his mission to stop Hell Corp from stealing the souls. In the game whenever you take an action other than attacking the enemies all simultaneously take an action in response. Your goal is to eliminate all enemies. Stay out of sight or else the alarm meter will raise and the game will get harder.
This game was produced over the course of a month to make something in a new engine.
My Role
I was the technical Designer and sole Programmer on this project. My focus was on player interactions and the simultaneous action that everything in the game functions off of.
The Grid and Turn System
I first implemented a grid that both players and enemies were restricted to, this would function as the basis for movement and triggers for the game. I then set up a single enemy and player that were confined to this grid and started work on a simple version of the simul-term system.
Player Interactions
I moved on to creating interactions for the player, enemies being able to spot the player, attacks such as fireballs and traps (all acting on the turn system with varying speeds), and the alert level (a simple state machine that changed the state of difficulty for the player by altering maps, enemy behavior, and turning on traps)
Polish
Finally I set about creating other enemy types and polishing features and interactions for them to be placed in level.
